Regulations of the Échappée MICHELIN Paris-Clermont 2025

Article 1: Purpose and Participation Formats
#

  1. Purpose of the Challenge:
    The Échappée MICHELIN Paris-Clermont 2025 is a long-distance, semi-autonomous cycling event from Paris (Brétigny-sur-Orge) to Clermont-Ferrand. This challenge aims to highlight personal effort, self-surpassing, and camaraderie among participants.

  2. Participation Formats:
    Participants can take on the challenge in one of the following formats:

    • Solo: Individual challenge, each cyclist rides alone.
    • Duo: Two participants take on the challenge together.
    • Trio: Three participants join forces.
    • Quatuor: Four participants form a team to tackle the challenge.

Article 2: Conditions of Participation

  1. Eligibility:
    The challenge is open to any adult cyclist holding a valid FFCT, FFC, UFOLEP, or FSGT cycling license, or a medical certificate for the practice of cycling.

  2. Insurance Advice:
    Participants are strongly advised to have personal insurance for cycling activities. Although not mandatory, such insurance provides protection in case of accidents or injuries during the event.

  3. Equipment:
    Each participant must have a bicycle and gear compliant with the traffic regulations, including proper lighting for night riding.


Article 3: Registration
#

  1. Procedure:
    Registration is done online via the SportnConnect platform, accessible through parisclermont.com.

  2. Required Documents:

    • A medical certificate for cycling, issued within the last 6 months or
    • A valid cycling license (FFCT, FFC, UFOLEP, or FSGT).
  3. Deadline and Participant Limit:

    • Registration is open until July 1, 2025, or until 200 participants have registered, whichever comes first.
    • Once 200 places are filled, registration will close even if the deadline has not been reached.
  4. GPS Tracker Deposit:

    • Each participant (or team) must provide a €200 deposit check when collecting the bib for the GPS tracker.
    • The check will be returned after the event, provided the tracker is returned in good condition.

Article 4: Insurance
#

  1. Insurance Advice:
    Although civil liability insurance is not required, participants are strongly encouraged to purchase personal coverage for cycling challenges.

Article 5: Route
#

  1. Distance:

    • 400 km: Start in Brétigny-sur-Orge and finish in Clermont-Ferrand.
  2. Checkpoints / Refreshments:

    • Bourges: Checkpoint and refreshment station, open from 11:50 a.m. to 7:20 p.m. (with first aid and logistical support available).
    • Ladoux: No refreshments.
    • Finish: Refreshments available.
  3. Time Limit:
    The maximum time allowed to complete the challenge is 27 hours.

  4. Maximum Average Speed:
    Participants must not exceed an average speed of 33 km/h, corresponding to the opening times of the finish checkpoint.


Article 6: Mandatory Equipment
#

  1. Bicycle:
    Suitable for long-distance cycling and in perfect working order.

  2. Gear:

    • Approved helmet.
    • Clothing appropriate for weather conditions.
    • Front and rear lights, plus a high-visibility vest outside daylight hours.
    • Repair tools (inner tubes, pump, etc.).
    • Sufficient food and water.
    • GPS Tracker: Tracking device provided by the organization, mandatory for all participants.
  3. Communication:
    A communication device (mobile phone) is required to contact the organization in case of emergency.


Article 7: Pre-Start Briefing
#

  1. Mandatory Attendance:
    Attendance at the briefing is mandatory. Any unjustified absence may result in exclusion from the challenge.

  2. Content:
    Information about the route, safety instructions, and checkpoint management.


Article 8: Code of Conduct
#

  1. Road Safety:
    Strict compliance with the traffic code and posted signage is mandatory.

  2. Spirit of the Challenge:
    All participants are expected to behave in a sporting and respectful manner. Mutual aid, shared experiences, and self-improvement are encouraged.

  3. Environmental Respect:
    Participants agree to protect natural areas along the route and to avoid any behavior that might harm the environment.


Article 9: Safety
#

  1. Individual Responsibility:
    Each participant is responsible for their own safety.

  2. Incidents or Accidents:

    • In case of a serious accident, immediately call 15, 18, or 112.
    • Also contact the organization at the number provided during the briefing.

Article 10: Withdrawal
#

  1. Procedure:
    In case of withdrawal, the participant must inform the organization and proceed to the nearest checkpoint or support station. If necessary, they are advised to call emergency services.

  2. Return of the Tracker:
    The GPS tracker must be returned to the organization. Failure to return or serious damage to the device will result in the €200 deposit being cashed.


Article 11: Material Damage
#

  1. Responsibility:
    Each participant is responsible for their own equipment.

  2. Breakdowns:
    The organization assumes no responsibility in case of mechanical failure or breakdown. Participants must plan for any necessary repairs to continue the challenge.

  3. Costs:
    Repair or replacement costs for damaged equipment are the participant’s responsibility.


Article 12: Event Cancellation
#

  1. Reasons for Cancellation:
    In the event of extreme weather conditions, health measures, or force majeure, the event may be canceled.

  2. Notification:
    Participants will be informed as soon as possible.

  3. Refund:
    Except under exceptional circumstances, no refunds will be issued. Postponement or refund conditions may be defined by the organization.


Article 13: Image Rights
#

  1. Authorization:
    Each participant authorizes the organization to use their image and voice without compensation for any recording made during the challenge.

  2. Media:
    Images may be used on all digital, printed, or other promotional media.


Article 14: Bike Check Before the Start
#

  1. Mandatory Technical Inspection:
    Before the start, a technical inspection (Bike Check) is carried out to verify the compliance of the bicycle and equipment.

  2. Items Checked:

    • Brakes (front and rear).
    • Lighting (front and rear).
    • Tires, frame, drivetrain, and other essential components.
    • Tracking Device (GPS Tracker): Must be operational and correctly set up.
  3. Equipment for Night Riding:

    • Front and rear lights securely attached and in excellent condition.
    • Spare batteries or lighting devices (recommended).
    • High-visibility vest, harness, or reflective vest (mandatory outside daylight hours).
    • Clothing with reflective elements (strongly recommended).
  4. Non-Compliance:
    If the bicycle or equipment does not meet safety requirements, participation will be denied until the necessary corrections are made.


Article 15: Baggage Transport
#

  1. Optional Service:

    • An optional baggage transport service is available for participants wishing to reduce their load.
    • This service is limited and must be reserved at registration.
  2. Procedures:

    • Baggage check-in takes place at the start in Brétigny-sur-Orge.
    • Baggage will be available at the finish.
    • One piece of baggage per person, with a maximum weight of 10 kg per bag.
    • The organization is not responsible for items contained in the transported bags.
  3. Fees:

    • This is a paid service; rates will be specified on the official event website.

Article 16: Acceptance of the Regulations
#

  1. Commitment:
    By registering, participants accept all the terms of these regulations without reservation.

  2. Sanctions:
    Any breach of the rules may result in exclusion from the challenge, without prejudice to any additional measures deemed necessary by the organization.

  3. Disputes:
    Any claim must be submitted in writing within 48 hours following the event and will be reviewed by the organizers, possibly in collaboration with the relevant homologating body.
